EMU Police To Host Bike Rodeo On Saturday With COVID-19 Guidelines In Place

WEMU
2018 Bike Rodeo

Eastern Michigan University’s Police Department will host its annual community Bike Rodeo safety program this Saturday, but it will look a bit different because of COVID-19.

Because the pandemic has closed many university buildings and spaces, the Bike Rodeo will take place from 9 am until noon at Gene Butman Ford in Ypsilantiinstead of its usual location at the EMU Convocation Center.  Attendees will also be asked to comply with social distancing markings on the ground and to wear masks.  Sgt. Joseph Torres is organizing the event.

Sgt. Joseph Torres: We will be giving away helmets, but we’re not going to fit the helmets this year. We’re going to have an instruction sheet with the helmet.

Kids are encouraged to take their bikes to ride through an obstacle course that will be set up to follow social distancing guidelines.
