Former Washtenaw Co Commissioner Conan Smith Now To Lead Michigan Environmental Council

Saying it will be his mission to make sure "the heart of the environmental movement is beating strongly," Conan Smith is thenew CEO of the Michigan Environmental Council.

89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry talked with Smith about his new position.

Former Washtenaw County commissioner and local nonprofit leader Conan Smith will be the new CEO of the environmental coalition created in 1980 to lead Michigan’s environmental movement.

Smith says “addressing race and environment issues” will be the hallmark of his tenure adding “concern for the environment is deepest among people of color,” adding “the stewardship of our environment is important to just about every Michigander."
