Many K-12 students live with food insecurity, housing and transportation issues, and, too frequently, physical or emotional abuse. That presents a barrier to positive educational outcomes. In this week’s "Washtenaw United," WEMU’s David Fair talks with student advocate and Adverse Traumatic Experiences master trainer Jason Gold about how best to identify and deal with the issues to change life trajectories.
WEMU has partnered with the United Way of Washtenaw Countyto explore the people, organizations, and institutions creating opportunity and equity in our area. And, as part of this ongoing series, you’ll also hear from the people benefiting and growing from the investments being made in the areas of our community where there are gaps in available services. About Jason Gold
Jason Gold is a loving, joyful, powerful, visionary leader. Jason is a Character Maven! He coined the term Character Maven in the spirit of Mark Alpert’s definition of Maven, “someone who wants to solve other people’s problems, generally by solving his own.” Character Maven's help people by deliberately addressing their own character.
Jason Gold has responded to chaos, crisis and traumatized people for nearly 20 years as a police officer and educator. He observes the universal breakdown of moral, family, and community values. He is a master trainer of Adverse Childhood Experiences promoting awareness of ACEs and the impact on the individual as well as the public, to foster empathy, healing, resilience resulting in personal transformation and healthy thriving people.
He is an advocate, author, educator, entrepreneur, retired law enforcement officer, and speaker. Mr. Gold is currently employed as an advocate for the Ann Arbor Public Schools.
Jason is a servant leader. He serves on local and state boards. His diverse experiences have shaped him into a change agent practitioner. Jason’s priorities are advocating for youth, family, traumatized populations, education, community, health and public safety. Jason has an innate ability to develop meaningful and sustainable relationships. He is a problem solver and source of contribution. He creates opportunities to: connect, engage, relate, educate, and serve youth, parents, and educators, in communities throughout the country. His unique message is practical, thought provoking, and it encourages self-reflection and action.
Jason is a devoted husband and father of five children. His fuel and passion comes from his family, friends, affiliations, and network. He earned his B.A. in Criminal Justice Administration and M.S. in Organizational Leadership and Administration concentrating in Transformational Leadership.
