Local democrats fell in line with the rest of the state in preferring Sanders to Hillary Clinton, but by a wider margin. In Washtenaw County, the Vermont Senator picked up support from 55% of voters to Clinton’s 44%.
Republicans in the county voted contrary to the majority of the rest of the state. Here, Ohio Governor John Kasich took 34% of the vote to the New York billionaire’s 28%. Ted Cruz finished a distant third in Washtenaw with 23% of the vote.
Statewide, Trump had over 36% support, while Cruz finished second and Kasich third. In the end, Trump added 25 more delegates to his total while Cruz and Kasich earn 17 each.
