As of this week, the City of Ypsilanti has resumed its parking enforcement program.

While the city is still not charging drivers to park at meters due to a shortage of coins during the pandemic, individuals who violate time limits, permit parking, or other posted parking restrictions will be ticketed.  Bonnie Wessler is the project manager for the Department of Public Services and says the enforcement will help create parking turnover in the business districts.

Bonnie Wessler: One of the ways that we can help support our small businesses it to ensure that the people who patronize those businesses have a place to park so they can get in, pick up their order, or do a quick round of safe, socially distanced and/or masked shopping, and get right back out.

The city has also designated 15-minute parking spaces in Depot Town, Downtown, and West Cross for residents who are picking up takeout orders at restaurants.Non-commercial, fact based reporting is made possible by your financial support.  Make your donation to WEMU todayto keep your community NPR station thriving.
