Washtenaw County continues to move forward with plans to improve broadband service in our area.
The county’s broadband task force is setting up a pre-engineering study that will allow them to identify the type of infrastructure that’s needed to improve broadband service. Barbara Fuller is the chair of the task force and says Freedom and Ann Arbor Townships are among the areas that need better connection.
Barbara Fuller: So, looking at what’s currently overhead on the poles, what would be required if an area is not served.
Fuller says the results of the pre-engineering study will be used to apply for federal grants to help pay for broadband improvements. The county conducted a broadband survey earlier this year in 15 townships and determined that 64% of the households surveyed don’t have a minimal level of broadband internet service.
