#OTGYpsi: Ypsilanti middle school relocates, expanding facilities and programming
Middle schoolers in the Ypsilanti Community Schools are in a new building this year. It’s actually a school that was shut down when Ypsilanti and Willow Run Schools merged. Rylee Barnsdale sat down with YCS Middle School Principal Charles Davis to learn more about the educational and community opportunities that stem from the change this academic year.

Washtenaw United: Ann Arbor's Bluebelt program expanding impacts
Ann Arbor City Council recently approved contributions to its first project in its innovative Bluebelt initiative. The Bluebelt program is a supplement and extension of the city’s Greenbelt land preservation program. It aims to improve area water quality. Now, in partnership with Washtenaw County and Scio Township, Ann Arbor is purchasing the Davenport Property just west of the city, along Mill Creek. That will add 79 acres of woods, wetlands and farmland. WEMU's David Fair got an update on the Bluebelt program with Ann Arbor Land Acquisition Specialist, Rosie Pahl Donaldson.

#OTGYpsi: YCS Resiliency Center marks five years of serving underprivileged students and families
At Ypsilanti Community Schools, the Resiliency Center has grown into one of these spaces that really is making a difference in our community. Since its start, the center has expanded from a single room into a multi-room resource hub, offering clothing, hygiene supplies, internet access, and connections to community services for hundreds of families each year. Lee Van Roth talked about the Resiliency Center's history and the work it does today with its director, Cherisa Allen.

Issues of the Environment: University of Michigan working to win the national 'Campus Race to Zero Waste' competition
The race to eliminate waste is on, and the University of Michigan is working to win! The Campus Race to Zero Waste is the nation’s leading collegiate waste-reduction competition. Michigan won the competition in 2024 but fell short last year. The 2026 competition is underway and runs through the end of March. WEMU's David Fair spoke with U-M Sustainability Program Manager Alison Richardson about the competition and how it benefits the environment.

Washtenaw Business Lens: Political and policy impacts on the health of business in Washtenaw County
Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently gave her final State of the State address. Politics and policy most certainly have an impact on the health and well-being of the business community. Rich Chang is the Chief of Staff of Blumira, a Washtenaw County-based cyber security firm. He joined WEMU's David Fair and Ann Arbor/Ypsilanti Regional Chamber Executive Vice President Andy LaBarre to talk about how the business community is faring through political uncertainty.

Washtenaw United: Bird Center of Michigan works for preservation, offers education
The Bird Center of Michigan continues to grow in scope and impact. It was created as the Bird Center of Washtenaw County in Ann Arbor back in 2004 but changed to the Bird Center of Michigan and moved to Saline in 2021. The center not only aids birds, wildlife and the environment, it creates educational and personal growth opportunity through some unique programs. WEMU's David Fair talked with Clinic Manager Marissa Jardine about the center's impact.

Issues of the Environment: Dealing with electronic waste in Washtenaw County
While we work on big, community environmental initiatives and goals, we have to remember that sometimes it’s the small, everyday choices we make at home that add up to a big difference. Washtenaw County has robust reuse and recycle programs. With the growing amount of electronics in our lives, we are often left with decisions to make about how best to get rid of those items.
