#OTGYpsi: Gen AI Spring Summit at EMU set to share diverse views on new technology
Students will gather at Eastern Michigan University on March 16 for this year's Generative Artificial Intelligence Spring Summit. With the theme "Learning Together at the Forefront of Change," the summit will explore applications of generative AI, ethical considerations, environmental impacts, and strategies for responsible use across sectors. Lee Van Roth shared more about the summit and its overall goals with the director of EMU's Office of Campus and Community Writing, Dr. Ann Blakeslee.

Washtenaw United: Washtenaw County's '#wishyouknew' campaign works to destigmatize mental health issues
For as long as we’ve been discussing advancements in mental health care and the work to destigmatize mental health issues, there is still a lot of work to be done. One of the efforts in Washtenaw County is the “#wishyouknew” campaign. It is put forth by the Washtenaw County Health Department. WEMU's David Fair talked with the county's communications coordinator, Lisa DeRamos, about the program, who it is helping and how it can connect you with available resources.

Washtenaw United: UWSEM no-cost tax preparation services available to those making under $69,000 per year
Tax season is in full swing now. Not many people love paying taxes, but for low-income individuals and families, it can be a hardship just finding the money for someone to prepare the taxes. Here in Washtenaw County and Southeast Michigan, there is expert, IRS-certified tax preparation assistance available, and there is no cost to any individual or couple earning less than $69,000 a year. Last year, in Washtenaw County alone, it saved residents over $2 million. WEMU's David Fair got the details in this conversation with the United Way’s Megan Tybos.

Issues of the Environment: U-M at center of geological hydrogen research and debate
The picture of our present-day energy use comes from a sort of all-of-the-above menu. We use oil, gas, natural gas, nuclear, wind and solar. Research is underway to determine if the use of hydrogen can be used to significant scale as part of the energy diet. Ann Arbor has become central to the research and discussion on that matter. On this week's "Issues of the Environment," WEMU's David Fair was joined by the Associate Dean for Research at the University of Michigan College of Engineering, Todd Allen. They explored the environmental promise, uncertainties and controversies surrounding hydrogen energy.

1st Friday Focus on the Environment: The EPA revokes the 'endangerment finding' that drives federal climate policy
The EPA has reversed the so-called "endangerment finding". It is the legal basis for the nation's federal effort to combat climate change. The White House says it led to over-regulation and is costing people money. Scientists and researchers worry about the setbacks it may cause. WEMU's David Fair and Michigan League of Conservation Voters executive director Lisa Wozniak explored these issues with the Holcim Professor of Sustainable Enterprise at the University of Michigan, Andy Hoffman.

Issues of the Environment: Combatting light pollution in Ann Arbor while moving toward carbon neutrality
Some of Ann Arbor's streetlights can be distractingly bright. New LED lighting is helping with the city’s A2Zero Climate Action plan, but some worry over increased light pollution. WEMU's David Fair talked with Ann Arbor City Council member Dharma Akmon about how the city can move forward while addressing sustainability and accommodating public concern.

1st Friday Focus on the Environment: Rep. Reggie Miller introduces legislation to ban toxic waste from other states
The Army Corps of Engineers wants to ship toxic waste from New York to a facility in western Wayne County. It comes from the World War II-era Manhattan Project and has low levels of radioactivity. While the shipment issue winds through the court system, measures are being taken in Lansing. State Representative Reggie Miller is a Democrat from Van Buren Township. where Wayne Disposal is located and where the shipments are scheduled to arrive. She has introduced a bill that would ban all out-of-state waste shipments and discusses it with WEMU's David Fair and Michigan League of Conservation Voters executive director, Lisa Wozniak.
