No Action Taken On Environment Michigan Solar Proposal

Solar Panels Ypsi

Environment Michigan Tuesday night made a presentation to Ypsilanti City Council on how the city could become a solar energy leader in Michigan, but its recommendation that the city set a goal of having solar panels on 1,000 roofs by the year 2020 was not immediately acted upon.

Dave Strenski is founder of Solar Ypsi.  He says 1,000 roofs by 2020 is an aggressive goal, but believes it can be met.  He says an Eastern Michigan University professor is busy studying roofs in Ypsilanti to figure out how many might be suited for the installation of solar panels.

Strenski says there are already local contractors in place who can do the installation work, and he recommends training more people to do that kind of work to speed the process along.

Ypsilanti City Council last night expressed an interest in waiting for the results of the EMU study before approving a policy statement in support of the 1,000 roofs by 2020 goal.
