Minimum Wage Increase: Pros and Cons

Michigan's Small Business Administration and a local organization dedicated to the success of locally-owned independent businesses are weighing in on the idea of raising the minimum wage.

Rob Fowler is President and CEO of the Small Business Association of Michigan.  He says wages should be market-driven, not set by government.

Ingrid Ault, Executive Director of Think Local First, says every worker should be able to earn a living wage.

Ault says a store like Costco, which may pay $11.50 an hour, doesn't get a federal subsidy.  But a store across the street that pays $7.25 gets a government hand-out for paying a sub-standard wage.

There's talk at the federal level of hiking the minimum wage, and a group in Michigan is working to have the issue placed on the fall ballot.
