With the deadline to use a right of first refusal to buy the Edwards Brothers Property on State Street about a week away, Ann Arbor City Council will hold a special meeting on the issue Monday.
The city would need to spend $12.8 Million for the nearly 17 acre property or the University of Michigan will take it off the tax rolls.
City Council member Stephen Kunselman thinks the city needs to work with the university on their future growth needs in a different manner. He thinks this is a speculative land deal with too many questions and will cost the city too much money.
Mayor John Hieftje isn't leaning one way or the other on the purchase. He says city council has been researching the issue for months and still wants to hear from people potentially interested in the property.
