Eastern Michigan University And Faculty Union Reach Tentative Contract Agreement
After nearly two months of formal negotiations, Eastern Michigan University and the American Association of University Professors have reached a tentative contract agreement.
According to press releases from both organizations, the contract, which runs through the 2018-19 academic year, provides for salary increases of 2.5% per year for each year of the contract, as well as some changes to health care plans.
"I want to recognize and thank both bargaining teams for their diligent and highly focused efforts in reaching this tentative agreement, which comes nearly a month before the start of classes at Eastern," said Kim Schatzel, Eastern Michigan University interim president and provost and executive vice president of academic and student affairs. “This agreement is an indication of trust and shared mission between our faculty and EMU administration, during a time when all universities face significant financial challenges.
The union has scheduled ratification votes on the new contract for September 10 and 11. The University's Board of Regents would then vote on the agreement at its regular meeting on Oct. 13.
