The response to the water crisis in Flint is growing on a daily basis. In this month's 1st Friday Focus on the Environment, Lisa Wozniak talks with a scientist who is working at short and long term solutions from the center of the crisis. Marty Kauffman is a Professor at the University of Michigan-Flint, specializing in water resources, urban groundwater contamination and sustainable systems.
Dr. Marty Kauffman is part of a team working to map the water service lines in the city of Flint. The Flint crisis has affected more than 100,000 residents attached to the water system, but Kauffman says the impacts stretch well beyond the city's borders. The solutions, he says, begin inside the home and trek outward, always mindful of the politics and policies that will continue to be involved.
