Ann Arbor City Council Approves 2017 Fiscal Year Budget, It Includes Utility Rate Increases
Utility rates will go up starting July 1st for water, sewer, and stormwater. The increases vary from 5.5% to 6.5%. Council member Sabra Briere from the 1st Ward says the change is needed to address issues, such as operation costs and maintenance.
"A typical family that uses just a small amount of water might see an increase of five dollars in their bill."
The increases will generate about $3 million.
Council also approved an additional $75,000 for the city's deer management program. Bringing the total budget for that project to $145,000.
Other budget amendments include an additional $100,000 for affordable housing and $100,000 more to install new streetlights. In total, council added an additional $345,000 in expenditures for its general fund.
