Musicians from across southeast Michigan will be in Ann Arbor tonight to pay tribute to the victims of Sunday's mass shooting in Orlando, Florida.
More than 200 will gather at the University of Michigan's Hill Auditorium tonight to perform Mozart's Requiem.
Austin Stewart is a graduate student instructor at the University of Michigan and helped organize the event. He said it came to him almost immediately upon hearing the news out of Orlando.
"I felt that what I needed most was to make music with others and to be with others and to celebrate what is beautiful in this world."
After some discussion with other friends and musicians, it became clear Mozart’s Requiem was the right choice.
"We decided that this was the best way to offer a song of solidarity and of solace and remembrance."
The performance at Hill Auditorium gets underway at 8pm and is completely free and open to the public. They will be collecting donations at the event to help the victims and their families.
