The University of Michigan Health System has started using a new, smaller pacemaker to treat patients with heart conditions.
The new design eliminates the need for wires or a chest incision by entering the patient's body through a vein and lodging itself in the heart.

"It's an exciting technology that I think has the opportunity to provide a lot of advantages to our patients."
Cunnane says it's a lot less invasive than older methods and has proven very effective during its initial clinical trials.
