Ann Arbor's 4th Ward City Council Candidates Meet In Debate
Candidates for Ann Arbor’s Ward 4 debated at the city’s Community Television Network studios last night.
Giannola, a former planning commissioner for the City of Ann Arbor, said she supports a new Amtrak station at Fuller Road.
"If the choice of the train station is at Depot Street, then I think commuter rail will actually fail there. We really need commuter rail to be at the population center, where the work force population is, which is near the university.”
Graydon Krapohl is the incumbent for Ward 4. He says increasing mass transit in the city will take regional cooperation.
“I think one of the major things we have to do in order to deal with congestion and traffic is we have to work regional, because it's not just an Ann Arbor issue, it’s a regional issue. Because many of the workers coming in do come from outside Ann Arbor.”
Lipson, also a former Ann Arbor planning commissioner, says he heavily supports a train stop at Depot Road.
“I don’t believe the train station should move. I’ve been driving around the area of the Depot Street station. I think it's actually the exact right spot because it is so accessible. You can get to it from Maine, Division, Fuller, and Depot.”
