Washtenaw County Voters Now Deciding Fate Of Local Issues And Races At Ballot Box Today

Voting Booth
Sam Felder

The day is here!  The polls are now open and will remain open until 8 o'clock tonight as voters decide the future of the country and many other local issues.

Local voters will join others in Wayne, Oakland and Macomb Counties in deciding the fate of the long talked-about regional transit system.  If approved, the RTA tax would create commuter rail service between Ann Arbor and Detroit and fund other local and regional transportation enhancements.

There will be two other countywide ballot proposals before voters--one to authorize the levy of a half-mill to improve roads, bike lanes, streets, and paths and the other, a .10 mill tax request to pay for countywide veterans services.

In Ann Arbor, voters will decide on an amendment to increase the term of the mayor to four years and council members from two to four-year staggered terms.

There are four proposals on the Ypsilanti Township ballot covering the issues of police and fire protection, among others.

Local residents will also vote on the County Sheriff's race, congressional races, state legislature positions as well as city, township, and village candidate races among others.
