200 people participated in a Martin Luther King, Jr. march hosted by Ypsilanti Community High School students. The event took place after students expressed racial and immigration concerns when Donald Trump was elected president last November.
With duct tape on their mouths, two students lead the peaceful silent march from the Ypsilanti Water Tower to downtown. You didn't hear any chants, but their message was received loud and clear by bystanders as they walked with signs that read "Black Lives Matter."
The silence was broken when they got to the YES Art Theatre.
It was at that site that Frederick Douglass gave a speech 150 years ago. Ypsilanti Community High School student Cameron Thomas participated in the march.
"...because a lot of people aren't equal in this world, so a lot of people need to understand that."
At the end of the march, students also showcased a photography project about social inequality.
