Ann Arbor City Council Working Towards Adding Measure To Police Immigration Policy
Some council members do not want the Ann Arbor Police Department to assist the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency with immigration arrests. So they plan to introduce a resolution opposing one particular measure.
Council member Chuck Warpehoski represents the fifth ward.
"Only detain people on immigration concerns if there's a valid one. ICE has a practice of asking local jurisdictions to hold on to people after they're scheduled for release, which has very serious constitutional problems with this."
While Ann Arbor protects immigrants, it does not officially consider itself a sanctuary city.
