Section Of Border To Border Trail In Ann Arbor Closes Today For Project
The Gallup Park pathway portion of the Border-to-Border trailin Ann Arbor from the Geddes Dam to the parking lot, east of Huron Parkway, temporarily closed today.
Construction crews will spend the next two to three weeks replacing the asphalt that was just put in last year and is still in good condition. The problem is that the company that was hired for the project didn't use an asphalt mix that meets the quality standards for the Michigan Department of Transportation.
City of Ann Arbor Park Planner Amy Kurassays MDOT funded the project.
"So, it's sort of an unknown which is why they're asking us to replace it. They don't know, and we don't know if its going to hold up in the long term. And because the contractor was at fault in this situation, they are going to be funding the entire replacement of the path."
For those relying on this section of the trail to commute from Ypsilanti, the suggested alternate route is to continue north on Dixboro, west on Geddes, north on Earhart and west on Glacier Way.
