Ypsilanti Community Middle School students were evacuated Monday morning after a hand written bomb threat was found in a bathroom. 89.1 WEMU's Jorge Avellan was there as parents picked up their children from school.
"I think it's just sad."
Katekia Allen left work to pick up her daughter that's in the 6th grade. Students were transported to Ypsilanti Community High School for safety. Allen was glad to hear that police gave an all clear after searching the middle school.
"Somebody is reaching out for some attention, somehow. And we need to figure out what exactly is going on with that child," said Allen.
District Superintendent Dr. Benjamin Edmondson says students were taken to the high school after a bomb-detecting canine got a hit during the search.
"It wasn't a bomb, I'll tell you that. But sometimes there is just strange smells, because the officers were telling me that before, sometimes there is strange smells. For whatever reason, from a bag or a locker," said Edmondson.
