Mary Morgan brings a wealth of experience to the airwaves. While heading up the CivCity Initiative now, Mary was previously co-founder and publisher of the Ann Arbor Chronicle. Prior to that, she served as a reporter and editor for the Ann Arbor News when it was a daily, print-edition newspaper.

• The Ann Arbor City Council and library board are both meeting tonight at 7 p.m., and both groups will be considering their 2018-19 budgets. The council will also be voting again on whether to buy back the former Y lot. The resolution for a buyback failed 7-3 at the council's April 2 meeting, because land purchases need 8 votes to pass. • The City of Ann Arbor recently revamped its listing of advisory boards and commissions, making it easier to find
vacancies and apply online. As examples, there are vacancies on the Ann Arbor Public Art Commission, Cable Communications Commission, Commission on Disability Issues and Downtown Area Citizens Advisory Council, among many others.
• It’s time to get your absentee ballot for the May 8 election – if you qualify. Remember there's an election on May 8 for voters in the Ann Arbor Public Schools district and several other parts of Washtenaw County.
• On Wednesday, April 18, the local League of Women Voters hosts Suzanne Van Dam from Friends in Deed, who’ll discuss the nonprofit’s work to alleviate poverty in our community. The discussion will include plans for voter registration and education tailored to families living in poverty in Washtenaw County. This Brews & Views event starts at 7:30 p.m. at HOMES Brewery, 2321 Jackson Road, Ann Arbor.
• On Friday, April 20 from 6-8 p.m., you can find out how to participate in this year's Commuter Challenge by heading over to Bill's Beer Garden, 218 S. Ashley in Ann Arbor. The annual challenge, which runs from May 1-31, encourages residents to use alternative methods of getting to work – such as walking, biking or taking the bus. It's organized by the city's getDowntown program.
