Civic Matters: Ann Arbor Sustainability, Becoming A Poll Worker, And Marching In 4th Of July Parade

From Monday night's Ann Arbor City Council meeting to finding out how to participate in the upcoming 4th of July parade in Ann Arbor, "Civic Matters" has your engagement opportunities covered!

Mary Morgan brings a wealth of experience to the airwaves.  While heading up the CivCity Initiative now, Mary was previously co-founder and publisher of the Ann Arbor Chronicle.  Prior to that, she served as a reporter and editor for the Ann Arbor News when it was a daily, print-edition newspaper. 

 

 

 

 

This Week's Topics

• The topic for Monday night's Ann Arbor City Council work session is "Building a Healthy Ann Arbor."  Staff presentations focus on parks & recreation, sustainability initiatives (including recycling and climate change), and the People-Friendly Streets project.  The meeting starts at 7 p.m. at city hall, 301 E. Huron, and can be watched on CTN Channel 16 or online here.

• On Tuesday, June 12, the task force that's developing recommendations to create a new city commission on police-community relations is holding a listening session that's open to the public.  The intent is to get feedback from the community about their experiences with the Ann Arbor police. • Want a glamorous way to support our democracy?  OK, the glamour is elusive – but being an election inspector definitely supports democracy!  The City of Ann Arbor needs people to work the polls on Election Day.  Pay starts at $11 an hour – plus heaps of community gratitude.  Click here to get more info, including an application form.

• A reminder that July 9 is the deadline to register to vote in the Aug. 7 primary election.  Click here to check your registration status or check out AnnArborVotes.org for info on candidates and ballot proposals.

• Everyone should march in a parade at least once in their lives, right?  Well, your opportunity is now!  You can march in the Ann Arbor July 4th parade (deadline to enter is June 22), volunteer to help the Ann Arbor Jaycees or just show up to watch!  Click here for details.
