U-M Nurses To Rally For Fair Pay In Ann Arbor This Weekend
Bargaining will resume Monday on a new contract for some 6,000 nurses working at the University of Michigan hospital. A special rally and informational picket is planned for Saturday to show support for the nurses' union.
Members and supporters of the University of Michigan Professional Nurse Council will gather near the Ann Arbor medical campus Saturday morning to show support for nurses now working under a contract extension after no new agreement was reached before their current contract expired.
Katie Oppenheim is the chair of the nurses' union and says they want to show people they want a fair contract for their services.
"The institution has a very strong financial position, and management is asking for concessions that will really hurt nurses."
She says some movement has been made in contract talks but adds they still have a long way to go in reaching an agreement.
