After 3 years as the Superintendent of Ypsilanti Community Schools, Dr. Benjamin Edmondsonhas decided to step down from the position. He talks to 89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry about his tenure and what lead to his decision to leave the Washtenaw County school district.
Ypsilanti Community Schools superintendent Dr. Benjamin Edmonson recently turned in his resignation to the school district, which is now searching for his replacement.
Saying most urban school superintendents last less than two years on the job, Edmonson says he’s leaving for personal reasons. He said simply ”it was time,” due to the pressures of the position and three years on the job. The outgoing Ypsilanti school superintendent says he feels he has accomplished many of the improvements he set out to make and sites a recent visit by the Governor as something he is proud of. But he says he didn’t make those improvements alone.
Edmondson says he didn’t resign from the Ypsilanti school district because he has another job already lined up, but will take some time to sit out and think about what's right for him to do next.
