Susan Guszynski and Greg Mazure are theater production professionals who have seen the world over the last 30 years as members of national theater touring companies. Join WEMU's David Fair and The Arts Alliance’s Deb Polich to take a trip with this couple to get the behind-the-scenes look at the behind-the-scenes life.
Creative industries in Washtenaw County add hundreds of millions of dollars to the local economy. In the weeks and months to come, 89.1 WEMU's David Fair and co-host Deb Polich, the President and CEO of The Arts Alliance, explore the myriad of contributors that make up the creative sector in Washtenaw County.
Greg Mazure graduated from University of Michigan with a degree in theater and drama in 1979. Two years later, he was initiated into IATSE 395, the Ann Arbor Stagehand local, where he has served as business agent and treasurer. His first tour as a theatrical lighting technician was in 1981 and he hasn’t stopped. He and his wife Susan Guszynski, a company manager, have been tour for over 30 years.
Tour highlights include:
- "Holler If Ya Hear Me" (Broadway)
- "Def Poetry Jam"
- "Picasso at the Lapin Agile"
- "Guys and Dolls" with Maurice Hines
- "All Shook Up"
- "Xanadu"
- Ken Hill’s "Phantom of the Opera"
- And, most recently, "On Your Feet" the Gloria and Emilio Estefan musical
During frequent breaks in Ann Arbor, Greg’s local work has included being production manager for the Ann Arbor Summer Festival for the first two years and this year as well. He’s been a lighting designer for the Ann Arbor Summer Festival, University Musical Society, the Michigan Theater, and The Ark. If you’ve seen a show at Hill, Power Center, Mendelsohn, or the Michigan Theater, you’ve probably seen his work.
