Ypsilanti Amtrak Plans Derailed For Now

Plans to build an Amtrak platform in Ypsilanti's Depot Town have been put on hold for now.

The City of Ypsilanti received news that they will not be awarded a federal CRISI grant that would've paid for about 70% of the $3.8 million project.  Mayor Beth Bashert says the city now plans to apply for a BUILD grant.

"It's another federal grant and that one is for general transportation infrastructure across the country. It's another large pool of money that we plan on applying for"

The city has allocated about $1.7 million from their general fund for the project.
