The coronavirus crisis is continuing to raise questions about the future of sports and athletic programs at college universities.
The NCAA recently ruled that student athletes will get another year of eligibility if their season was canceled due to the disease, but many other issues still remain.
Eastern Michigan University Vice President and Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee says they still don’t know how this could impact summer or fall sports, or what to do about conference play if some regions of the country recover from the epidemic faster than others.
“There’s no playbook, we’re almost kind of making this up as we go, and then every hour and everyday something else changes, and it’s made us push back more and more each day, and that’s the tough part about this,” Wetherbee says.
Wetherbee says they also need to address the issue of scholarships and scholarship funding, if students whose seasons were canceled this year choose to return and play next year.
