Ypsi Reveals Why They Didn't Get Train Platform Funding

The City of Ypsilanti has released information as to why they didn’t receive a federal CRISI grant that would’ve helped them build an Amtrak platform in Depot Town.

Mayor Beth Bashert says insufficient support was given at the federal level for the project as well as from Amtrak itself.  Bashert says outdated ridership data from pre-2017 was used by the city when making its case to add a stop on the Wolverine Line

"OHM, who is our engineering firm on contract and staff decided that having bigger numbers was going to be more helpful than having more recent numbers. And the CRISI grant evaluators did not agree."

City council is expected to discuss in June if they want to move forward with the project.
