COVID-19 To Impact Washtenaw County's Budget

Washtenaw County

The Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners discussed a projected financial impact COVID-19 will have on the county’s future budgets.

The county administrator informed the board that in a best case scenario, they’re expected to see an average deficit shortfall of $6.7 million for their budgets between 2020 and 2023.  Commissioner Katie Scottsays, in a worst case scenario, that figure would be $9.6 million.

Commissioner Katie Scott: I think that every single department across the county will be affected. Unfortunately, it’s hard to say that we will be able to single any particular department out.

Scott says the county expects its state revenue sharing funding to decrease during the next few years because of COVID-19.  No word yet if that will lead to employee layoffs.
