Ann Arbor’s city council will continue discussing the city’s Solid Waste Resources Management Plan tonight.
City Council Member Chip Smithfrom the fifth ward says the plan is designed to lay out a strategic approach for how the city should provide solid waste and recycling programs, but he believes it should also address how it will incorporate the city’s carbon neutrality plan. The city’s goal is to obtain community-wide carbon neutrality by the year 2030.
Council Member Chip Smith: We’re not talking extensively about transitioning to electric vehicles for collection, we’re not specifically setting out a roadmap of how we get to zero waste.
Smith says one issue is that the waste management plan was developed before the city fully approved carbon neutrality. He plans to suggest that the plan be revised to include components from the carbon neutrality plan.
