A2 City Council To Discuss The Possibility Of Dissolving The Ann Arbor DDA Tonight

City of Ann Arbor

The Ann Arbor Downtown Development Authority was caught by surprise when they learned that Ann Arbor’s city council will discuss two resolutions tonight to consider dissolving the DDA.

City Council Members Anne Bannister and Kathy Griswoldare sponsoring the resolutions that ask the city attorney to determine if council has the authority to dissolve the DDAand to evaluate the possibility of such action.  Griswold has said she would like more transparency from the DDA.  Susan Pollayis the executive director of the DDA.

Susan Pollay: We provide our budget to the council and have a work session around the budget with the council. We provide the audit, because we’re part of the city audit, so they have all the content through the audit. The mayor or the city administrator serve on our board, so, there’s regular communication at the council meetings.

Griswold also said that she has concerns about the DDA adding parking structures that could create traffic issues in the downtown area.  Pollay says the DDA also discusses potential parking projects during their work session with the city, and council members are welcome to provide input.
