Ypsilanti’s City Council is now accepting applications to fill a Ward One vacancy on council.
The vacancy became available after former Council Member Brian Jones-Chancefrom the first ward stepped down on Tuesday to allow council to facilitate a transparent process in appointing a council member to that seat for the next two years. Jones-Chance was appointed to the position for three months after Mayor Lois Richardsonvacated that seat when she became mayor this summer after former Mayor Beth Bashert resigned from office. Andrew Hellenga is the city clerk and explains the ward one vacancy process.
City Clerk Andrew Hellenga: Once all the applications have been received, they will be forwarded to the six remaining council members, and then they will decide which applicants they wish to interview.
The city charter requires council to fill the vacancy by December 1st. Brian Jones-Chance plans to reapply for the position. For information on how to apply, click here.
