EMU Encouraging Students To Get Tested For COVID-19 Before Going Home For Thanksgiving

Eastern Michigan University is offering free COVID-19 testing to all students who live on campus.

EMU has canceled classes on Monday and Tuesday of next week as part of a wellness initiative to help students prepare as they get ready to return home for the Thanksgiving holiday break.  As part of that program, students are encouraged to get tested for COVID-19 on campus to help prevent the spread of the virus back home.  Walter Kraft is vice-president of communications for Eastern.

Walter Kraft: The last thing we want, and the last thing anyone wants, is to have somebody who is positive for COVID coming into a household with others. It could be with someone who is older, somebody who has immune challenges.

Kraft says if a student does test positive for COVID-19, the university will provide them with quarantine housing until they get better.  Currently, 11 students are under quarantine on campus.Non-commercial, fact based reporting is made possible by your financial support.  Make your donation to WEMU today to keep your community NPR station thriving.
