EMU To Host Virtual Commencement Ceremony This Saturday

EMU

Instead of its regular in-person ceremony, Eastern Michigan University’s December commencement will be held virtually this Saturday, December 19th, due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

Eastern has put together a pre-recorded ceremony that features remarks from University President James Smith and the deans of the five colleges.  The video will be made available to graduates and the general public on Saturday at 9:30 am through a web link on the university’s website.  Students' names will not be read, but they will be displayed as part of the video.  Sydney Pope from Ypsilanti will be among the graduates.

Sydney Pope: Me and my family we’re just going to watch the celebration and I’m going to be in my cap and gown. I’m going to Snapchat and take some videos and whatnot.

Geoff Larcomis a spokesperson for EMU.

Geoff Larcom: This is a special chance to really feel good about what you’ve done and the heartfelt tributes are there.

The University of Michigan will also hold a virtual commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 19th using a similar format.  For more information on the EMU ceremony, click here, and for U-M, click here
