To help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the Hope Clinic in Ypsilanti wants to be among the local medical clinics that offers the COVID-19 vaccine.
The Hope Clinic says having proper vaccine storage will be essential in deciding the type of COVID-19 vaccine they get. Billy Kangas is the director of community engagement for the clinic and says they’re currently exploring storage options.
Billy Kangas: If it’s like an ultra-cold storage situation, we probably have to make a decision whether or not we can invest in building the infrastructure to be able to store the vaccine.
In 2019, the Hope Clinic logged 3,477 medical visits. Kangus says that number increased by 10% in 2020 because of the pandemic, and it’s expected to increase even more in 2021 if they start offering the COVID-19 vaccine.
