Because most performance events must be planned well in advance, there will be no Top Of The Park events or indoor concerts as part of the Ann Arbor Summer Festival for the second year in a row, due to the ongoing pandemic.

WEMU's Lisa Barry talks with Summer Festival executive director Mike Michelon, who says they are planning to have some events to keep the spirit of the festival alive.

For the second year in a row, there will not be a “typical" Ann Arbor Summer Festival, due to the pandemic.  Ann Arbor Summer Festival organizers say they typically plan years in advance, and, due to the ongoing pandemic, that made it difficult to schedule any indoor performance events or Top of the Park activities for this coming summer.

But festival executive director Mike Michelon says there’s going to be what they’re calling “Tiny Tops”--smaller musical performances people can schedule on their own--and a number of “pop-up concerts”.

Michelon says they plan to announce the artists for both musical opportunities in May.  He also said they hope to be able to provide some outside movie events as well.
