Local civil rights activists are praising the conviction of former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin.

Chauvin was found guilty of all charges in the murder of George Floyd.

Trische' Duckworth, the founder of Survivors Speak, says she’s grateful for the verdict and thinks this is a catalyst to change unlike any she’s seen before.

“I believe that just witnessing his murder before all of our eyes ignited something in a lot of us.  And we all see the need for change,” Duckworth says.

Duckworth says this is only the beginning, and more still needs to be done to address racial justice and policing.
