Two measures that were headed to the November ballot are now law.  The state Legislature voted to increase the state’s minimum wage and allow employees to get earned sick time.  However, the laws do not take immediate effect.  Some supporters of the proposals are now concerned about what the Legislature will do next.

The state Legislature could vote to repeal the prevailing wage law as early as next week.  The Michigan Supreme Court yesterday ordered the ballot measure to move forward.  Prevailing wage requires public construction contracts pay union-level wages.

Michigan State University is under multiple investigations for its handling of sexual assault complaints.  And the Board of Trustees says it will cooperate with all of them.  The Speaker of the House plans to use every tool he has to make sure MSU cooperates with his investigation.

Governor Rick Snyder delivers his eighth State of the State address Tuesday.  The State of the State is a yearly event where the governor lays out his priorities for the upcoming year.  Some lawmakers have wish lists for what they want the governor to talk about.
