P.S. Words Matter - Poetry Slam at the Leon Loft
Join us Thursday, December 8th at 7:00 PM at the Leon Loft (715 W. Ellsworth Rd, Ann Arbor, MI) for a night of music, poetry, and community. The event will feature performances by local spoken-word poet Lilly Kujawski and neo-soul singer Where She Creep. Tickets are $5 at the door.
The Slam format is competitive, with participants signing up to perform original spoken word poetry and compete for a chance to win cash prizes at the end of the night. Poems are judged by the audience across several metrics, and the first, second and third place performers will be awarded $100, $50, and $25 respectively.
What is a Poetry Slam?
Spoken word poetry plays a vital role in our culture as a powerful means of self-expression. The Poetry Slam is an inspiring place for artists and audience members to gather and connect as we survive and thrive in challenging times.
Lively slam events energize poetry. At the event, you'll enjoy original poetry and live music. Between performances, DJ Megi keeps the beats rolling. Audience members serve as judges, and we'll award cash prizes at the end of the night to the poets with the highest scores.
Slam poetry is an artistic movement that helps to define the collective psyche of our times. It's a voice of the community, by the community.
