If you want to vote in the August primary, today is your last day to register.
The Secretary of State says it only takes a minute to register – which you can do at your local clerk’s office or at any Secretary of State branch office. But then you actually have to vote in the primary on August 7th.
Bill Ballenger is a political analyst and founder of The Ballenger Report. He says there could be a “Trump effect” that increases voter turnout in the primary. Ballenger says there may be more Democrats voting as a sign of opposition, and more Republicans voters because they’re enthusiastic about their party. But he still doesn’t expect a high turnout for the primary.
“To get what is called a good turnout or a decent turnout in a primary is just abysmal. The bar is set so low.”
That bar is set at about 20% of the voting age population.
