New Leadership At Ypsilanti Community Schools Vow To Work To Strengthen District

After filling the position for several months on an interim basis, Alena Zachery-Ross was recently named the permanent superintendent for Ypsilanti Community Schools, and Dr. Carlos Lopez was recently hired as the assistant superintendent of curriculum.  89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry spoke with both of them about their goals and efforts to work for the betterment of the Ypsilanti Community School District.

Saying "we're stronger together," the new Ypsilanti Community School officials say they are acknowledging the challenges the school district faces and providing the tools to help students learn.  Both Zachery-Ross and Dr. Lopez pointed out the importance of partnerships the school district has in the community, which they say are "vital."

Zachery-Ross and Lopez bring a combined 60 years of educational experience (25 for Zachery-Ross, 35 for Lopez).  They intend to put education first and give students and their families the opportunity to stay in (or come back to) the district.

Upcoming events in the district include:

  • YCS Grizzly Soiree Breakfast (May 17 9 AM-11 AM)
  • District Job Fair (May 22 10 AM-2 PM)
  • YCS Jazz in the Parking Lot (July 26 7-9 PM)
