Issues of the Environment: Ann Arbor looks to become 1st in the nation to decarbonize an entire neighborhood
The city of Ann Arbor has an ambitious environmental goal. It wants to utilize grant money to launch a plan to intends to decarbonize the Bryant neighborhood on the city's southeast side. Ann Arbor sustainability and innovations manager, Missy Stults, joined WEMU's David Fair to discuss where the process stands and what it will take to become successful.

“Tree Town” is moving to take next steps to better protect the source of its nickname. Ann Arbor is working on an update to its Urban and Community Forest Management Plan to address climate change challenges and other issues. Urban Forestry and Natural Resources Planning Coordinator Tiffany Giacobazzi joined WEMU's David Fair to discuss what’s on the table and how the public can help make present and future determinations on Ann Arbor’s urban forest.

Issues of the Environment: Environmental Education Program in Ann Arbor Schools teaches students in and out of the classroom
Environmental stewardship is certainly important now. With a changing climate, growing population and greater need for adaptation, it will only become more important. That’s why educating today’s K-12 students is vitally important. The Ann Arbor Public School District has its Environmental Education program, and it’s not only teaching in-class, it provides hands-on experience in nature. Issues of the Environment: Food Gatherers continues its work to reduce food insecurity and food waste
As the Thanksgiving holiday approaches, food insecurity is on high in Washtenaw County. Eileen Spring is president and CEO of Food Gatherers, and she says, since the pandemic, the demand for food assistance has skyrocketed and continues to go up. What is being done to address this glaring community need? Part of the solution also provides some rather amazing environmental benefits. Eileen joined WEMU's David Fair for a discussion on dealing with food insecurity and how food rescue also helps reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Issues of the Environment: 'Resilient Washtenaw' climate action plan advances toward approval and implementation
Washtenaw County is in the process of developing a comprehensive plan to address greenhouse gas emissions. It's called "Resilient Washtenaw." Strategic partnerships and a year's worth of public input will soon be drafted into an action plan with equity and justice at its heart. The county's strategic director, Andrew DeLeeuw, joined WEMU's David Fair with the latest as the public input portion of the study winds down.

As the new session in Lansing gets underway, Democrats find themselves in control of both chambers of the Legislature for the first time in 40 years. Governor Gretchen Whitmer sees that as a path forward on a number of issues. The governor joins WEMU's David Fair and Michigan League of Conservation Voters executive director, Lisa Wozniak, to lay out her priorities for the next two years.
