Governor Rick Snyder declared victory over the state’s economic hardships in his eighth and final State of the State address.  The governor, last night, said choices made over the last seven years leave room now for more investment in schools and infrastructure.  But it’s not clear that he can win support for his plans in the Legislature

The Legislature is back in session for 2018, and an early priority is dealing with taxes.  Talks are underway to figure out how to make sure the federal tax overhaul doesn’t cause a spike in state income taxes.

Democratic lawmakers are trying once again to repeal the state’s “Right to Work” law.  Five years ago, a Republican-led Legislature made Right to Work the law of the state.  It prohibits contracts that make union membership a condition of employment.
