A national spotlight was shining on the arts and creative organizations in Washtenaw County and Southeast Michigan last week when the National Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) visited.  In this week's "creative:impact” segment, Victoria Hutter, the NEA’s assistant director for public affairs, joins WEMU's David Fair and The Arts Alliance’s Deb Polich to discuss what happened during the visit.  Hear how the NEA continues to impact our communities and remains essential to the country.

At the end of 2018, John Bracey announced his retirement as executive director of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs (MCACA).  Luckily, the council didn't have to search too far for his successor.  MCACA programs manager Alison Watson will take over as executive director, and she talks about her plans with WEMU's David Fair and Arts Alliance CEO Deb Polich in this week's "creative:impact."

This week, Art and Soul is about the visual arts in our community.  89.1 WEMU's Lisa Barry is joined by the executive director of CultureSource and chair of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affiars Omari Rush, and another guest, the executive producer of the Ann Arbor Blues Festival James Partridge.

The three talk about a special photo exhibit of past festivals which will be on display at the Ann Arbor Art Fair later this month.

For many arts and cultural organizations, May is "grants month."  The Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs' annual grant deadline is June 1st, and many are scrambling to gain access to available funding.  Scott Rosencrans makes a living winning access to that grant money.  He is owner of Grants Resource and joins WEMU's David Fair and Deb Polich of The Arts Alliance for a look at the process and importance of grant writing in this week's installment of 'creative:impact.'

The arts community around southeast Michigan is excited about new leadership in Lansing.  Omari Rush has been named chair of the Michigan Council for Arts and Cultural Affairs.  Rush also serves as executive director of CultureSource after years as Vice President at the Ann Arbor Art Center.  Rush discusses his plans for the council with WEMU's David Fair and Deb Polich, president and CEO of The Arts Alliance, in this week's edition of 'creative:impact'.
