Through June 2nd parents from across Washtenaw County can again apply for schools of choice seats in Ann Arbor Public Schools. The district has gained about 600 students for next school year, but still hasn't filled all of the 750 choice slots initially offered.
Communications Director Liz Margolis says the second period is allowed by the state partly because of a new option. The district announced plans to have a K-12 International Baccalaureate program in the middle of the initial schools of choice enrollment.
According to Margolis the number of schools and slots per school are more limited during this round of Schools of Choice. An example of this is Northside which will have no seats available because of interest in the K-8 STEAM program to open there.
Margolis says the district is getting a good response from parents who were offered seats from the original schools of choice application, and very few parents are declining their seats.
