Eastern Michigan University Officials Visit Lansing For 'EMU Day'

It was “Eastern Michigan University Day” Tuesday at the state Capitol.

Every year, administrators and faculty members from Eastern travel to Lansing to spend some one-on-one time with state lawmakers to share what’s happening on campus and in the classroom at EMU.

University spokesman Geoff Larcom says this is a day to interact with Michigan lawmakers and to spread the word about what Eastern is accomplishing and contributing to higher education and the state.

“The various levels of community engagement we have, our various programs in which we interact with the Ypsilanti community and additionally the Southeastern Michigan area,” Larcom says.

Larcom says face-to-face time with legislators in Lansing is important because, as one of 15 public universities in the state, they’re all competing for the attention and resources of state lawmakers.

EMU presidentDr. James Smith was among those who attended EMU day in Lansing to share the University story.
