EMU Hires New Athletic Director
Eastern Michigan University has chosen Scott Wetherbee to be its next athletic director.
Wetherbee has more than 20 years of experience as an athletic administrator and had previously worked as an assistant athletic director at East Carolina University and, most recently, as the interim athletic director at Mississippi State University.
The Kalamazoo native says he wants to focus on several key areas, including building up the quality of EMU's brand and getting students excited about going to games.
"We need to figure out how to connect with our students and get them here. They create an atmosphere that allows our fans to come around and get excited about our programs."
Wetherbee will be the 14th athletic director in EMU's history. He is replacing Heather Lyke, who left EMU in March to take the same position at University of Pittsburgh.
In addition to hiring Wetherbee, the University has also extended the contract for EMU football coach Chris Creighton by another four years.
