It was a relatively light day at the ballot box Tuesday in Washtenaw County. In the end, all ballot issues passed, and one incumbent lost in the four, contested primary races for Ann Arbor City Council.
Anne Bannister defeated incumbent Jason Frenzel in the 1st ward race in Ann Arbor. Frenzel had been appointed to the seat when Sabra Briere stepped down to move to California. Bannister bested Frenzel by 115 votes.
In the 3rd Ward, Incumbent Zachary Ackerman beat former city councilman Stephen Kunselman by 185 votes.
4th Ward representative Jack Eatonbested challenger Jaime Magiera by 293 votes.
And, 5th ward incumbent Chip Smith was 199 votes better than David Silkworth.
All winners advance to the November general election.
There were four ballot issues decided in Washtenaw County:
--Ypsilanti voters approved a Water Street Debt Retirement Millage by nearly a 2-1 margin. This year’s vote follow’s last year’s vote in which a similar proposal was defeated by 39 votes.
--In Lyndon Township, a broadband internet bond proposal passed with 622 of the 943 votes cast in favor of the measure.
--In Northfield Township, a public safety millage passed by a safe margin.
--And, the Dexter Community Schools request for a building and facilities bond issue passed by more than a 2-1 margin.
